Frequantly Asked Questions

Q: What is a restore disk and how would I use it?

A:Many computers including laptops and desktops are supplied with a restore CD (sometimes called recovery disk) or a recovery DVD disk. For some of the newer models vendors are requiring you to make the set of recovery CDs yourself by running special software preinstalled on your computer.

The problem is these disks can get misplaced or damaged and you need another set.  Once a set of recovery disks is purchased for your model from www.goldenrestoredisks.com you will be able to restore the computer's hard drive back to original factory defaults.  All recovery disk(s) include an operating system, some default software and device drivers. When you restore the drive, all personal data and all software you installed after you bought the laptop will be ERASED.

Before using recovery disks backup important files if possible.  You can transfer important files to another computer over the network, transfer them to an external hard drive or a USB flash drive and even burn them on a media (CD/DVD).  It is very easy to restore the computer using restore disks.  Depending on the model there will be slightly different instructions.  Most follow these basic recovery steps.  You have to insert the recovery media inside the optical drive and restart the computer.  Make sure to set the DVD/CD drive as a first boot device which allows computer to boot from your recovery disk. After that just follow the wizard.  Restoring the computer usually takes 30-60 minutes.  For the laptops that use DVD's to restore their computer it may take up to two hours because of all the drivers and components that have to be installed.

Q: My computer is slow will these restore disks make it fast again?

A: Yes. After you first start using your computer from day one your computer can start to have reduced performance. This is usually due to web surfing and installing programs which in turn can install spyware, malware and viruses you don't even know about.

Each one uses a chunk out of your computer processing speed to run. After time this leaves you with very little performance left from when you originally purchased your machine. I myself restore my computer with restore disks every 4-6 months. This is so much faster than trying to run 3-6 tools each month to "clean" up the computer. Tip, just make sure to keep your documents on backup media like a USB stick.

Q: What are drivers?

A: Drivers are software that help the computer identify and run the hardware that is installed.  Without drivers the computer will not be able to know the difference between a network adapter and a sound card.

Q: What if I am still missing drivers after restoring my computer using a restore disk?

A: Restore disks will restore the Operating System and most standard drivers that is needed for the basic functions of the computer. If any drivers are still needed they can be downloaded at HP's website here: http://welcome.hp.com/country/ca/en/support.html.

Q: How do I find out what drivers I am missing?

A: You can find out what drivers you are missing by looking in your Device Manager. You can get here by right clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop and go to properties. Select the Hardware tab and then select the Device manager button. This will show you your basic hardware installed on your computer. If you are missing drivers you will see yellow question marks next to the hardware that is missing the driver.

Q: Can you create me a disk with all drivers needed for my computer?

A: Yes. You can just send your Make and Model to sales@goldenrestoredisks.com and a complete custom drivers disk will be created and sent to you that will have all the drivers for your computer for only $11.99 which includes shipping.
